What does “amateur friendly” really mean?
It is a useful search phrase, but it does not describe the same horse for every rider. One person may be experienced in bringing on young horses and work regularly with a trainer. Another may be looking for a forgiving partner with more schooling. Age, character, training and rider confidence all influence the fit.
That is why we prefer to talk about the individual combination of horse and rider rather than label every horse as suitable for amateurs. A young horse can still need professional training and daily guidance even when it has a cooperative nature.
What we value in our breeding
Our aim is to combine quality with a willing attitude, a clear mind and sound development. We want horses that can become a pleasure to work with in the arena and in everyday handling. Temperament and trainability influence a relationship that may last for many years.
We never view visible movement as the whole story. Powerful expression has its place, but it is not the only consideration for a horse intended to progress steadily with a rider. This philosophy shapes our breeding decisions and personal horse selection.
Four things we ask potential buyers
- What is your riding experience? Have you brought on young horses before, or do you prefer a more established training stage?
- What are your realistic goals? Enjoyable daily riding, young horse classes or a pathway towards higher dressage levels may require different profiles.
- What support do you have? A trainer, professional rider and suitable facilities can significantly affect the match.
- What qualities matter most? Tell us about preferred energy level, sensitivity, size and your ideal feel under saddle.
No horse can be guaranteed to be completely safe or suitable for every rider. A personal assessment and independent professional advice matter.
What happens after your enquiry?
We first discuss your experience and ideal horse. If we have a suitable prospect from our own breeding, we can present it personally and talk through its development and current training. If our available horses do not fit, we would rather say so than force a match.
If you are interested in a young dressage prospect, the horse’s age, temperament, education and long-term suitability for your goals all matter. International buyers are welcome to arrange a personal visit.
